Why we set goals? What drive us as a human being to achieve goals?
The reasons behind setting goals differ from person to person, but the common and the real benefit of it is the person who you become in the process to achieve those goals.
Goal setting makes us focused and determined to shape our dreams. It gives a meaning of our life.
Goals are powerful because they push us to stretch ourselves, get out from out comfort zone and become more.
A mistake that many people do – that’s why they don’t achieve their goals, is they dictate their future based on their current situations.
It has to be strong reasons why we want achieve our goals. The more powerful our goals are, the more we’ll be able to act on and guarantee that we achieve them.
So, what are the key factors that you must heed on while writing your goals?
How can I achieve my goals?
In this blog, I’m going to answer the question by sharing with you 4 powerful tips to make you goals forceful and strong:
1.Assess your current situation
Before you decide what you want to do with your life, and where you want to go, it’s important to know where you are right now and what your existing level of satisfaction is.
Take some time to think through and write down your current situation; then ask yourself if it’s OK for each point.
The goal of the exercise:
- Is to know where you are so you can determine where you need to go
- It gives you an objective way to look at your successes and your quest of the vision you have for life.
2.Define your dreams and goals.
Dreaming and the ability to set goals to pursuit them is one of the amazing gift that we have been given as humans.
Dreaming is just the first part of the equation. What is more important, though, is the ability to set a workable plan to manifest those dreams.
What are your dreams and goals?
Have you ever really though through your values and decided what you really want?
Have you ever taken the time to truly think about, to listen to your heart, to see what dreams live within you?
Your dreams are there waiting for you. Your job is to kick your ass off, and take massive action with full determination to make them happen in real life.
Write down all of your dreams as they are. Don’t think of any as too strange or foolish, remember they are just dreams.
Now, prioritize those dreams. Which are most important? Which would you love to do the most? Put them in the order in which you will actually try to achieve them.
3.Make your goals S.M.A.R.T.
The acronym S.M.A.R.T. means Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-sensitive.
Specific: No place to broad goals. Remember, always Unclear goals yield to unclear results.
Measurable: Always set goals that are measurable. I would say “specifically measurable” to take into account our principle of being specific.
Attainable: One of the damaging things that many people do is setting unrealistic goals that are so high to achieve, and that can really dampen you confidence.
Relevant: Your goal also needs to be realistic to be successful. In other words, it should stretch your abilities but still remain possible. When you set an achievable goal, you may be able to identify previously overlooked opportunities or resources that can bring you closer to it.
Time: Every goal needs a target date, so that you have a deadline to focus on and something to work toward. This part of the SMART goal criteria helps to prevent everyday tasks from taking priority over your longer-term goals.
When someone knows what your goals are, they hold you accountable by asking you where you are in the process of achieving that goal.
Accountability puts some teeth into the process. If a goal is set and only one person knows it, does it really have any power? Many times, no.
A goal isn’t as powerful if you don’t have one or more people who can hold you accountable to it.
