In this blog post, I’d like to share with you 3 steps to build, and nurture one the key traits of achieving greatness in life which is mental toughness, referred as GRIT.
Being mentally strong is without a doubt is a must to climb the ladder of success, and get all the things that you want out of life
Expanding your comfort zone, and embracing the unknown will ultimately put in the path of hardships, obstacles, and if you aren’t having this GRIT component, I promise nothing will happen.
What is Mental Toughness?
Mental toughness or GRIT is nothing than persevering, going after your goals despite of the obstacles that are showing up in your way.
According to Angela Duckworth, GRIT is the main predictor of success.
This what separates the few form the masses. Successful people are willing to do what it takes to make their dreams a reality, and that refers to mental toughness.
Mastery is also a philosophy that ties to the concept of mental toughness.
The only way to be successful in this life, is to adopt a mastery approach towards what you’re doing, and that means it’s a long term thing, and you need to be determent enough to keep going even things are not in your side.
How to build mental toughness?
So, in the following lines, I’m going to share with 3 easy steps that will help you to develop the kind of mental toughness that you need to get your goals done.
1.Have a clear and a burning desire
First, and foremost, you need to come up with a definite, and clear reasons why you want to reach your goals.
If you’re not clear with that, and you don’t write down your reasons and why you do what you do, you’ll throw in the towel at the first sign of struggle.
The key is to come up with a burning, and keen desire that will move you relentlessly towards your dreams regardless your problems, and obstacles.
The main reason why people drop excuses, and stories, because they don’t have burning desire to get to the place you want, and they don’t have any purpose.
We are either moved by pleasure or pain. Maybe your reasons to achieve your goals to get out from financial pressure, and you are sick of that, or the desire to take care of your family, and let them experience the richness of life.
I believe to make your reasons more enticing, is mix them up. Meaning if you have 4 reasons, two need to be driven by pain, and the others by pleasure.
Once you have your list of reasons, put it in the wall, or somewhere you can look at, when you’re facing a down moment.
2.Build GRIT with small wins
GRIT is like going to the gym. You can’t expect that you’ll build those bulging muscles by going two or three days to the gym.
It all starts with small actions. Set some small challenges, and prove yourself that you can hit them.
The goal is to stuck up small wins, and that’s going to give the pride that you need to reinforce your mental toughness.
Don’t forget to reward yourself for the work that put in to get those challenges accomplished, because that’s going to juice you to go to the next level.
Everyone believe that motivation is the holy grail of getting things done. The reality is not.
You need motivation for certain times, and relying on it is simply the wrong strategy to apply. Here’s why?
Willpower is a fickle energy, is depleting. How you can build long term results and all your efforts are based on short term things which is motivation.
